A: Could you do me a favor? 通常講這句只是一點小事才會用...
何謂大事?像借一萬塊那種應該就算大事吧!
B: Sure. What is it? 老師說We always just say "sure" first.
也就是說呢不管幫不幫得上,都會先說OK, 然後問完什麼事再決定
接下來要介紹一些食物的量詞跟用法
a bar of chocolate
a bottle of ketchup; a jar of jam
bottle跟jar的差別?Bottle is skinny;jar is fat.
a basket of mushrooms 一籃。最常用在strawberry
a bucket of fish; a bucket of chicken 一桶
a bowl of soup; a bowl of noodles
a can of pop 汽水 在美國不同的地區 說法也不同,pop, soda, soda pop......
a cup of tea; a glass of water
cup跟glass的差別?Hot from cup; cold from glass.
a crate of tomatoes 常用於裝水果的一整箱,尤其是木頭的箱子
a dozen eggs
a ear of corn
a head of lettuce
a handful of peanuts; a handful of popcorn 一把
a piece of pie; a slice of pizza 一片/slice特別是用在像pizza那種切好的形狀
a spoonful of sugar; a spoonful of medicine 一匙
a drop of vinegar; a drop of medicine 一滴
a sack of potatoes 一袋。或用a bag of _____ .
sweets (B.E.) = candy (A.E.)
crisps (B.E.) = chips (A.E.) 不過當chips為英式用法,就是fench fries的意思
biscuits (B.E.) = cookies (A.E.) 餅乾
scone (B.E.) = biscuit (A.E.) 烤餅
Vocabulary & phrases
breaded (adj.): 裹粉的 The shrimp is breaded in our homemade batter.
液態醬料 dressing: goes on salad; sauce: goes on meat
乾醬料 seasoning: 像pepper
hold (v.): leave off/ without 例:不要洋蔥hold the onion.
mild (adj.): not spicy
on the side (pre.+n.): request for a food item to NOT be put on top of another food item 要求把配料放旁邊,不直接淋在上面,可用此用法
debit (n.): 金融信用卡。例:Can we pay by debit here, or do you only take cedid cards?
gratuity/tip (n.) 小費: tip 也可當動詞用 to tip +人。美國人以前通常給15%的小費;現在大部份會給18~20%
separate checks (adj. + n./v. + n.): a different bill for each member/group sitting at a table
sous chef (n.) 應該是二廚的意思
前一週的Going places翹課,無法寫Blog
上上週主題為Understanding Easter 很好的主題,因為這能更了解西方文化
不過因為當天很想睡...老師又再講復活節的故事...我整個就在度辜了
所以只能紀錄一點實用的英文
What a dog! 是什麼意思呢!是不好的話...但卻很口語
Talking about someone who is ugly.
另外老師有提到一個他們對於單身男女相約的見解
If a guy offer a pick up a woman at her house, it would consider a date.
所以當你對對方沒有特別的意思,就可以說Hope to see you there.或Hope you can be there.
不過也不是完全的啦!還是得看兩人的交情.....
